It’s almost always cheaper to add the right bag when you book or online before you fly.
Other Qantas cabin rules worth knowing
- Pack to the lowest allowance if one booking mixes domestic and international flights, or Qantas, Jetstar and partner flights. This matters most on Dash 8 flights.
- On flights leaving India you can bring one overhead bag only: 7 kg in Economy and 10 kg in Business. No extra personal item is allowed.
- A non-rigid garment bag up to 114 × 60 × 11 cm counts towards your allowance and goes under the seat or in the overhead locker.
- A laptop only counts as a personal item if it is in a slim bag. A laptop in a large bag counts towards your carry-on allowance.
- You can carry up to two power banks, each up to 160 Wh. They cannot be used or charged during the flight.
- If you sit in an exit row or at a bulkhead, your under-seat bag has to go in the overhead locker.

The cabin bag can weigh up to 10 kg. Qantas’ published rules give no weight limit for the free under-seat bag.

At most 37.5 litres for the free under-seat bag (34x48x23 cm) and at most 46.4 litres for the cabin bag (56x36x23 cm). That is the volume of a square-cornered box with exactly those measurements. A real bag has rounded corners, so check the size on the label as well as the litres.

What are the liquids rules for Qantas hand luggage?
Qantas doesn’t set the liquids limit. The airport you fly from does: some airports still enforce 100 ml, while others now allow containers up to 2 litres. Check your departure airport on our liquids rules page.
