It’s almost always cheaper to add the right bag when you book or online before you fly.
Other Air Transat cabin rules worth knowing
- A compact folding stroller or folding wagon that fits within the carry-on size can go in the cabin instead of your carry-on bag.
- A musical instrument up to 10 kg and 55 × 40 × 23 cm, wheels and handles included, can replace your carry-on bag. Anything bigger or heavier must be checked.
- Medical equipment such as a CPAP machine is accepted as a carry-on if it fits the carry-on size, even on Eco Budget. Keep your other items to a minimum.
- Canes and crutches are allowed on top of your cabin allowance. They go under the seat in front of you.
- A pet carrier counts as one of your cabin items.
- On codeshare flights, the baggage rules of the airline whose code is on your ticket may apply.

What size is Air Transat’s free personal item?
43 × 31 × 13 cm on the Eco Budget fare. It must fit under the seat in front of you.

Up to 55 × 40 × 23 cm. It’s included with Eco Budget, Eco Standard and Eco Flex and Club Standard and Club Flex.
Do Air Transat’s size limits include wheels and handles?
Yes. The limits are for the whole bag, including wheels, handles and side pockets.
What happens if my bag is too big for Air Transat?
If your carry-on bag is bigger than the size limit, Air Transat may make you check it at the boarding gate. Extra fees apply to bags over the size or weight allowed.
What are the Air Transat carry-on bag dimensions in inches?
Free personal item (43x31x13 cm): 16.9 × 12.2 × 5.1 in. Carry-on bag (55x40x23 cm): 21.7 × 15.7 × 9.1 in.

At most 17.3 litres for the free personal item (43x31x13 cm) and at most 50.6 litres for the carry-on bag (55x40x23 cm). That is the volume of a square-cornered box with exactly those measurements. A real bag has rounded corners, so check the size on the label as well as the litres.
Can I use a backpack as my free personal item on Air Transat?
Usually yes. The limit is on size, not on the type of bag, so a backpack that measures 43 × 31 × 13 cm or less when packed fits the free allowance. Straps and pockets count towards the size.
What are the liquids rules for Air Transat hand luggage?
Air Transat doesn’t set the liquids limit. The airport you fly from does: some airports still enforce 100 ml, while others now allow containers up to 2 litres. Check your departure airport on our liquids rules page.
